  • 1 travel shampoo & conditioner

    travel shampoo
You can find more bottles at hotels or left at hostels (make sure the person left before taking their toiletries). Also, shampoo can double as body wash
  • 1 travel face wash
  • 1 comb

Wide tooth combs are best on wet hair
  • Razors
  • 1 toothbrush & toothpaste
  • gp-toothbrush-2-pack_large
These are cool toothbrushes because the case is built in! Just be careful not to brush too hard. One time I was getting too into my teeth brushing and snapped the case off. Sad stuff
  • 1 hand sanitizer (it has a surprising amount of uses)
  • 1 mascara, eyeliner, maybe an eye shadow trio palette and mini brush (or use your finger), 1 lip gloss, 1 lip balm, 1 concealer
  • 1 pair of tweezers, 1 nail clipper, 1 nail file
  • 1 towel
    travel towel
This R.E.I. travel towel is great because standard towels are really bulky. Lots of stores and sites have similar options

  • 1 pair of jeans                                       jeans
  • 1-3 pairs of leggings leggings
  • Bras, underwear, socks
  • Tops: Tanks, tees, camis                                                        tees
  • 1 cardigan cartigan
  • 1 hoodie           hoodie

Cold Weather

  • 1 compact down jacket

Uni Qlo is the queen of compact down. These jackets are super light too! I have 1 and love it! It even fits under sweatshirts because it’s so light but it’s actually really warm. Granted, I live in a town that gets to be -30 F in which this jacket doesn’t cut it without a ridiculous amount of other layers but on a 25 degree day it’s great! It also comes hoodless, as a vest, and in a long style. I have the long one.

  • 1 fleece hoodie
  • 1 beanie                     beanie.jpg
  • 1 pair of gloves
  • 1 scarf                    scarf

Warm Weather

  • 2-4 swimsuits: bathing suits don’t take up much room. Bring what you feelbikini
  • An extra towel: One towel probably won’t cut it between swimming & showering
  • Dresses/ skirts                                                                                dresses
  • Shorts                                   shorts
  • 1-2 pairs of spandex

Spandex are great to wear under skirts/ dresses. What if you end up hiking or climbing?

  • 1 pair of dress shoes: You don’t think that you’ll need them but when you feel like a dirty hippie in a club you might regret it. Booties, flats, pumps all work booties
  • 1 pair of sneakers or hiking/work boots

    hiking boots
I have these Danner boots. I get tons of compliments on them but they were really tough to break in and even left a scar on my ankle. Now they’re great but I’m not sure it’s worth it
  • 1 pair of flip-flops: For hostel showers, random hot tubs, etc.

  • 1 day pack: Use as your carry on

I’ve had a Hershel for years and love it. The kind with the laptop case is awesome because that pocket doubles as a folder for pics and papers
  • 1 purse: for when you go out. Make sure that it’s compactpurse
  • 1 backpacking backpack or suitcase backpacking backpack'

  • 1 waterbottle (foldable flasks are the most compact)flask
  • Sunglasses                                                 sunglasses
  • 2 pens (put them in separate spots as not to loose both at once)
  • 1 notebook/ journal
  • 1 gluestick to glue things in your notebook

  • Cell phone
  • Headphones/ earbuds
  • Cell phone charger
  • Go pro/ camera if you have one. Don’t forget the charger
  • Laptop if necessary

  1. Ohhh… backpacking and not necessarily camping. Good list, I’m always thinking of camping lists which can vary a lot in what you need backpacking from one hotel/hostel to another.
