I traveled by bus from Vienna to Munich which cost me about $17. I sat next to 2 boys who were going to school somewhere in the US. One was from America and the other was from Munich. There were going to the German boy’s family’s place to visit.
The German boy said that Munich was boring. Everyone in the city always followed the rules. The Germans were still trying to redeem their reputation from WWII.
The German boy allowed me to use his cell phone to contact my future couchsurfing host, Jay. He was the only couchsurfer who agreed to host me with such short notice and a brand new profile. Jay let me know that he wouldn’t be there, but that his friend was using his place as an office and that I should get in touch with him. His friend’s name was Mac. Mac had messaged me on Facebook. Here was the message (I changed some numbers for security reasons):
“My friend Jay says you need a place in Munich tonight. Go to Candidplatz Ubahn (its 3 stops on U1 from Main station) get out on Pilgrimheimstrasser, go to number 41, Ring Jayl. Bring some things to drink. You can call +49 157 824 546 58 if you have any trouble. If you want to go to some clubs, tell me which type. and what time you will arrive.”
